Miriam Moreno
How and/or where did you start comedy?
I was born in Mexico and came to the US when I was 3. I started comedy in Denver, but before that, I didn’t know you can just do stand up comedy. I thought you had to move to a bigger city. I started going to an indie show in Denver for a few years before I got the courage to get up and try an open mic.
What inspires you or drives you?
Something that drives
me is the feeling of being creative and sharing it with other people!
What is some advice you would give to aspiring comics?
I don’t like giving advice because I feel everyone’s journey is so different. The only thing I will say is comedy is not just one thing. You can express yourself through different avenues in comedy, and the most rewarding is sometimes creating your own thing.
What's something awesome that's happened to you recently?
Something awesome that has happened recently is getting to do stand up comedy in Spanish. Being a Latina woman in comedy, it’s hard to find community that knows and understands your background. Recently a good friend who is also a Spanish speaker has pushed to create a space for Spanish speakers, and I want to make sure to support and help continue that. Comedy in Spanish is very limited in Denver even though it has a large Latin population. They are an overlooked demographic. I think people are starting to understand it matters.
Are there some big accomplishments and or credits you're proud of and would like mentioned?
I am the host of a comedy late night talk show called Good Night Denver. We write sketches, monologue, jokes and have performers come through. It takes a lot of work, but I am super proud of it. I get to be creative in a different way than straight stand up.
